I have an 84 SVO and just put a clamp on breather on the valve cover. Where the tube ran down to the turbo, I blocked off with a brass tube fitting plug. Will this be ok or will the brass fitting melt? It is on the intake side and it looks like it went into another brass fitting but I am not sure.

I think I am an idiot. I scraped at it and it is silver in color with a yellowish finish over it. I think it is steel. If it was brass I could have cut a sliver off right. I am sure I wilol be fine. No oil blowing out the valvecover breather yet

I dont have any pics but could take one if you needed it. The tube is 3/8" and I found a breather in the import
section of Auto Zone for $8. The backing on the package was Yellow and Orange. I have also seen the same things at Advanced Auto for a couple bucks more. the filter section is white and the rest is rubber and chrome or blue or red..etc. The spot on the turbo where the line runs down to can be plugged with a plug form NAPA. I think it was 3/8 pipe like brake line. Its not NPT if I remember right and its tappered. It will have a yellow finish.
I just put the breather on the valve cover and have not had any oil blow out of it yet. Or you could run some 3/8 fuel line to a remote area and use 3/8 brake line to connect the two.Biz closed till further notice

You are aware that the "clamp on breather" that you installed is allowing unmetered air into the engine which is the same thing as a vacuume leak.
The processor will eventually learn the leak and smooth the idle out but the reference tables that it picks out its air fuel ratios and idle strategy will be screwed up.
Just something to think about.

The valve cover has a breather on it now, so its not like the engines gases are going to build up and cause crank case pressure. Its the same idea as the Tiny Avenger kit.
Idle was never affected and its not going to mess up stuff that much, otherwise it would be widely known as a terribly thing to do.
I have K&N filter breathers on my Mustang GT and Bronco , too. No problems. If small changes messed up air/fuel that much we wouldnt be able to play with them.Biz closed till further notice

It also is the same idea as pulling one of your hoses off of the vacuum tree, or a worn out oil cap. It is unmetered air and the processor will learn it and it will adjust its tables accordingly.
But hey whatever works for you....

what if?
I was thinking of doing the same thing but with the Idea of an addional PCV valve to alow air to excape but not enter the the engine. Would this also mess with the processor?

Re: what if?
I dont know. In theory it sounds like it would work. It would be real cheap to try and see what it does. I do not know how much air is being drawn out of the engine by the air coming from the vane meter passing by the inlet on the turbo inlet bell. Or if it really would matter.Originally posted by DinomiteDave

The breather idea came up when people could not control oil entering back into the front of the turbo and being pushed through out the intake tract. It does not take but a little bit of oil in there to make the car detonate. There is no performance value to it if you have good oil control in your engine.
On most of the ones that I have seen, a set of the 87-88 TC valve stem seals and a good PCV valve will cure the oiling problem unless you have a lot of blow by for some reason in the engine.
The early 84's like mine did not have an oil seperator on them which will also help the problem. I grabbed one off of a TC to put on mine.

Oil seporator
Is that the one that gets gloged in side the valve cover that I sometimes hear about?1984 SVO Slapper (125MPH)

Re: Oil seporator
No this one sits on top of the valve cover in the back. Where the 84's had a nipple with a pipe hooked to it with a piece of hose, the later valve covers had a hole that the seperator pushed into.Originally posted by DinomiteDave

I just used a short piece of hose between the nipple and the seperator and another piece between the tube to the turbo and the seperator.

hard to find?
If keep the line active and want to run an oil seperator could I find one at a parts house or is it a dealer Item?1984 SVO Slapper (125MPH)
