  • More Engine Surging problems. (VIDEO)

Need help, ive done lots of research throughout the forums and haven't been able to fix the problem, so instead of explaining I have a video.

I've gone through and checked all the wireing form the grounds to fixing exposed wires. Checked for Vacuum leaks and found none, After cleaning the IAC I decided to replace it along with a new Pigtale. The FPR has been replaced along with the TPS. I've set base idle and TPS setting. Just installed new Cap,Rotor,Wires,Plugs (All MotorCraft). Pulled Codes getting 14 (Ignition pickup was erratic) and 34 (EGR did not respond properly). I went through and cleaned the EGR valve and insured that it was working. I checked the harness for the TFI and it looked fine, the TFI module itself looked like it had been replaced (not sure when). Now one of the problems seems to stop when i disconnect the IAC, so is that narrowing the problem down to the IAC, or should i go with replacing the TFI. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

that's strange. you unplugged the IAC and it never even changed a beat...I've never seen that before. It usually will change idle a bit..I cleaned my IAC several times and just replaced it.

Yea, when i unplugged the IAC the rpm's dropped a little bit, down to about 750 where i set the base idle at. But when the IAC is unplugged one of the problems stop. The rpm's move smoothly when brought up and then back down as to when the IAC is connected I'll bring the rpm's up and let off the throttle and the rpm's stay for a second and then drop back down to idle. (you can hear it in the video)

IIRC ignition pickup means the PIP, not the TFI...

try this before replacing a TFI or PIP.
In addition, remove and clean the IAC real good with some Fuel Injection cleaner. I propped mine up on the workbench so the holes were facing up and then filled the cavity up and let it soak for hours. A lot of black chunkies came out. Years of caked oil and other detritus were removed.

Thanks NavySvo, i will try this when i get home from work and let you know how it goes. I had replaced the IAC about a month ago so it should be clean, but I will double check.

Did you unplug the battery? Or reset computer codes after you did all those changes/fixes?

Seems to me that the code 14 is pointing to your problem. Fix that first, by replacing the PIP.

Forced4 lists the stator for $62.95
Autozone calls it a "pick-up coil" for $19.99
