  • Crankshaft Sprocket removal

Did a search, but couldn't find anything on this. Tried using normal puller, but couldn't get on sprocket correctly. What tool is used? Thanks for the help in advance.

Buy a valve spring compressor tool and disasemble to look something like this. Make sure the tool doesn't have staggered arms or it won't fit right. If the gear isn't pulled evenly it will catch on the snout and you'll have to tap it back on straight with a socket.

Get some good penetrating lube and spray in between the gear and crank. Some heat may also help the lube penetrate. Get a large deep socket (1 3/8 or 1 1/2 should work) and tap with a hammer to help break the rust loose and ensure it's not kinked. On my car I saw the gear more slightly back when tapped and then was able to remove it easily with the valve spring compressor.

BTW, I believe there is a special tool from Ford for removing these so you may want to check with your local dealer and see if any of the mechanics have one you can borrow/rent.
