  • KD 3087 but got this; will this work?

I ordered the correct tool and the KD 3271 was sent to me.

Has anyone used this tool, will it work and how well?

Here is a picture of it:

i think I tried one like that and it didn't work..I eventually ordered the esslinger tool..but in the meantime I used extra long needle nose pliers with rubber hose on the ends and it worked ok.

First time doing this so I don't really want to be fighting it all the way.

I have used this tool before and I found that two screwdrivers worked better......

that's why I used extra long needle nose with rubber hose on the ends.. it's like using two screwdrivers, but they are connected and has a bit more control. It took a little more work than having the right tool, but it did work and I got all the seals changed. I needed my car the next day so I had no choice but to improvise.

I have been trying to find a kd 3087 in Spokane, Wa. to do the motorcraft valve seals on my 84 svo. I was given the overhead valve compressor shown above as well. There is not one in Spokane. I'm thinking about getting a head work shop to do the valve seals. I have gotten a quote of $40 for putting the valve seals in. I was told by Napa the the KD 3087 has been discontinued and replaced by that overhead valve tool.

I just ran a search for KD Tools 3087 and had about 20 hits using Google.
It is on Amazon for $46.44 with free shipping.

I think I have that tool somewhere in my tool box. It can work but more often that not the cam towers are in the way to turn the wheel. I am guessing that you are trying to do this job without removing the head since it is a breeze to change valve seals if you have a normal valve spring tool.

I plan on doing in this winter so I have some time. I already have the engine compartment torn apart so I will keep looking.

                          KDTools 3087

I just picked up one of the KD Tools 3087 Valve Spring Compressor. It was tough to find and I hated to buy one for what seems like a 'one time use', but let me tell you - WHAT A JOY! Why I ever started to do the valve seals without it - I dont know.

Its about 100 times easier than trying to pry with a screwdriver, needle nose pliers, or some rigged together contraption.

I attached a video of me testing the tool and it shows how easy it is.

I got one of those ~ 12 years ago @ Carlisle. No longer buried in storage as stated above. I never used it til I helped the guy with the sick TC not far from me. NOW I have to use it myself. And now I'm quite practiced at it after getting a roller cam at the P&P today. Best $20 I ever spent at Carlisle!
