  • Silly...*basic* question..

Welll.. I finally got my SVO up on the rack, and changed the oil for the first time since I have had it.. I put 5 quarts of oil in the car, and changed the filter... the manual says to put in 5 quarts... when I checked it.. one half to nearly a quart low.. ! What's the deal there?

Took the car to Huntsville Ala. yesterday.. first time I filled the tank up totally, and made a long trip in the car. I drove 258 miles, and it used just a little over a half tank of gas! I was completely thrilled with that! When I used to go to shows in *Ole Blue* my 67 GT 390 fastback, I would get maybe 175 miles to the tank!

Car just performed great... I had more interest in that car at this show, then I did in the last 5 shows I went to in Blue..

Just can't figure out why I was short on oil before I left...

    Thanks for your help!

My Haynes manual says that the capacity of the 2.3L turbo is 5.5 Qts. So it is about right. The other thing you need to check if you didn't change the oil and filter yourself is if they used the PH8A filter. It fits, but is twice the size of the standard filter. Also, it could possibly rub the steering shaft.

Fram/ the best one they have; is a 'bad' little filter/ has a black grip on the end/ comes in a pop can......

The owners manual says 5 quarts, but 5.5 appears to be right. I changed it, and thought it would have been a FL-1A (PH8A) but it was a FL-300.. the smaller filter.

It just kind of suprised me. Ended up having to add different oil than what I bought because I only got the 5 quarts...( checked the oil at 6am before leaving for the Huntsville show)...

        Next time.. I will know.

        Thanks for the info.
