  • To remove the Fuel Injectors or not to Remove the Fuel Injectors..?

    Hello Everyone!

I have finally had time and money to get my turbo rebuilt (after two years) and am starting to piece my SVO back together. My question is...

Since the car has been sitting for about two years without being started (I dumped a fuel stabilizer in the tank about 20 months ago), would ANYONE recomend removing the Injectors and having them cleaned??

I want to be sure that when we fire this puppy back to life that she will have a clean stream of fuel into the cumbustion chamber.

Any thoughts, experience, suggestions, or advise will be greatly appreciated!

By the way, I cannot wait to hear her run again after two years of "dead" time.

    THANKS!

Boy this is a tough one !

Two years (stablizer or not) can gum up at the pintiles ! I don't know it I would give it a try -just so you can burn off the gas or plan on dropping the tank AND cleaning the injectors !

Plus the fuel filter is likely to be decomposing under the 10% ethanol in the fuel !

In the past I have started SVO's (that are know to have bad gas) with starting fluid and gotten it running enough to burn the bad gas.

P.S. I make the call on the amount in the tank. I heard once that if you fill the tank it doesn't have the air to effect it. NO it just is harder WHEN you have to drain it !

I just went through this. I started just by removing my valve cover to replace a leaking gasket, Decided since the injectors were easily removable why not, never have. Took them out sent them off to be cleaned and flowed, got a call that one was bad, had been for a while I guess. My car has always idled rough, just assumed it was the PE Comp. Sent him a spare and waiting to hear how this one does. Hopefully well. So yes if you haven't it is cheap enough to get them done. Can't wait to she how she responds after they are all working together.

id try to start it before yanking the injectors. you might get lucky. if it doesn't idle right, then pull the injectors and get em inspected/cleaned.

When you change the filter, drain the fuel in the line....

if the key has not been turned on, then the injectors have not had any fuel pushed into them yet... drain the line, Just depress the valve at the pressure test block to allow air in, and let the fuel run out.
              and re-prime with fresh fuel.

I started mine after 4 years of storage just fine. It ran a bit rough from the gas in the tank but we worked it through and its just fine now.

Thanks for the input. I will do exactly that.

I have not done the o-rings.

You can usually get a kit cheap of rings and pintle caps for the 5.0 and have spares.

                        O rings

make sure they are the black OE ford ones.
