  • KOER code problem

I'm chasing a problem I thought was a blown head gasket, but I don't think that's the case, so I verified timing, TPS, and fuel pressure, then went to pull codes.

50 dollar Actron Scanner, I've used it before just fine. KOEO test shows a code 11, but KOER test is fubar.

There is a switch on the scanner, it has a hold position and a test position. Start the car with the switch on hold, then when I move it to test, engine RPM increase to around 2200 for 15 or so seconds, something I have not noticed before.

Engine RPM comes back down, the light blinks twice for the Engine ID. About 6 to 20 seconds after that the light should blink once for me to do the "mash the accelerator to the floor test", but it doe not. Instead, the light comes on & stays on. The included instruction book does not mention this scenario.

Any ideas where to start looking for why I can't get KOER codes? Buy a new scanner, swap out PE's, or is this going to be one of those hard to figure out problems?

    Thanks in advance,

    James

We tried doing the snap test last night when the steady light came on, no change in the light after 2+ minutes.

Double checked again today, saw that the 2 blinks for the Engine ID occur doing the high RPM phase of the test, not after the RPM comes down. My neighbor/mechanic remembers the high idle at the start of the test.

Any other ideas? I pretty much need to have an SVO ready for the Reunion by Sunday, work travel has me pretty much tied up after that. I'm getting the 9L ready as a backup while I try to fix this.

Maybe a new battery in the tester?? I know mine gets a little wonky when the battery is low.

Snap test has messed up many people many times.

I gave up, and took it to my local Ford dealer to run codes, he got an 11 on both KOEO & KOER, so I'm guessing the tester is bad (device or person).
