  • Swap Compatabilty Questions

    Hi All,
well I've decided to revive/get running my 86 2R BWD, 4GF207907, "Wingless". It's been sitting in storage for a few years and since my 83 Capri isn't cutting it as a DD i decided to get this one running again. It really just needs some assembly, a motor, gearbox, computer, exhaust and brake refresh. Cosmetics aren't the first priority and neither is performance. Just looking to build a nice economical daily driver. I have pretty much all the parts i need in inventory.

I'm Currently parting out the wrecked 84 1C t-top that I bought last year, pics to come, and was thinking I could use the driveline from this car, only 108K miles, to get the car running. It's a complete car that I actually managed to get to run by feeding fuel into the fpr vacuum port. I think the fuel pumps failed or there was a kinked fuel line from the rear 1/4 damage.

My only real concern is the compatability of the electronics. I'm gonna use the 84 computer, 30# injectors and intake. THe 86 has all it's original wiring and I'm wondering what may or may not work. I do intend to eventually swap to a PE, 35# injectors and square manifold but till then?????????

    Any advice appreciated.

You will need to change to a 85.5/86 style TPS (if the early one is in place).
So it can plug into the harness

You'll have to change the pinout for the eec plug to the 84 style.

Yes you can! Just get the proper pin ejector tool and you're good to go.

Copy TPS, Copy Manual Boost Controller.

Re-pin???? I went from a ZBA to a PE in my 84 and didn't have to re-pin. I though you only needed to re-pin on an LA3 swap??

I _think_ you only have to repin on the la swap. I can confirm this afternoon (catching a flight back in 3 hours)

Yes only on LA3 swap do you need to re-pin
you can switch from the 84 computer to PE easily without re-pinning
