DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT PERFORMANCE GAINS CAN BE EXPECTED FROM A GUTTED AND PORTED 85.5/86 SVO INTAKE? ALSO WHERE CAN I GET ONE? THANKS!

Factual performance gains? .. none that I have seen.
Have you looked at the Bolt on Performance thread I created that could answer alot of questions? Like, where you can find someone who supplies this kind of service?

well, there is a chance we might get some type of clue soon (next time we have a SVOCA Dyno day ---
I have changed no other (engine) stuff on my SVO since my last dyno run ..
The amount of time between runs is a bad thing, but it might give us a idea..Eric C

I have my upper gutted, and the lower ported. I did notice a slight loss of low end torque. It has been said that gutting the upper makes the intake runner actually shorter, therefore the loss in low end. Just an FYI...no dyno proof of this...but I noticed it.
The high end however...whole other story!

From what I gather from the TA article in MM&FF gutting the upper is fine. It's siamesing (another name for knifing?) the edges on the lower intake that effectively shortens the runners and causes the torque curve to rise. I was worried about this, so had the guy that is doing my upper and lower intakes call Dave to find out exactly what they had done. I recomend making that call to Dave too.
Anthony, a guy that sells powder coated intakes on Ebay, is doing the port work for me. His work looks great, very refined. Once I get them, I'll post some pics. The cost for the intakes may very depending on what you want done, and you can provide your own. You can try to locate him through ebay or turboford and I'll also edit this post with contact info when I get home.

Siamesing the runners has to do with the upper intake. It refers to a partial gutting of the upper, where a portion of the webbing is removed to create 2 oval shaped runners (one feeding cylinders 1&2 and the other feeding 3&4) instead of the 4 stock round runners.Originally posted by Xaranthu

As far as RichSVOs info about a gutted runner loosing low end torque, there is no dyno proof of that needed. It is basic auto related physics. Stort intake runners will move peak torque rpm up in the range and longer runners will move peak torque rpm lower in the range.

Thanks for clearing that up Lonchair,
so if I'm picturing it right, when you gut the upper and leave the 4 leaf clover look, that is good, but going to the point it becomes an round edge square is too much?

Xaranthu,
What I'm saying is that it depends on what you want the car to do...low end torque, then don't gut it, just port it. High end torque, then gut it!
Remeber, we are talking about forced induction here, you are going to channel the air into the cylinders eventually...the difference is how soon the air gets "split up"
