  • Distributor gear alignment

I need to press on a new gear to the shaft of my distributor. How do I align the gear up so the pin goes back in?

I use a 2 or 3 foot puller to remove the old gear.
I've used my press to push the new gear on, and before I had a press, I used a socket, and a hammer to knock them on. They generally aren't too hard to push on. Then I use a small punch to line the gear up with the hole.

I boiled my gear in water and put the shaft in the freezer. You had about 45 seconds to line things up.

You mean you never heard of putting a flywheel in the freezer and then heating up a new ring gear?? drops right on and your done.
