Is it safe to run without an intercooler? I just changed the heater core and it want to watch for leaks in the hoses. I'd just be idling it obviously.

Leaving it out and having two open hoses on both sides won't make for a happy running car, but shouldn't damage anything.
The car should idle fine, right? I thought it ignored the MAF sensor when its idling.

To be perfectly honest, it will take you twice as long to compete this job doing it your way rather than just installing the intercooler and checking for leaks with a mirror and a light. As an aside, I can actually see BOTH heater core hoses with my intercooler installed. I digress.....In order to assist you in doing this job the hard way while answering your question, perhaps a radiator hose would work?? I don't know exactly what model of car one would source the radiator hose from. But I do know that a radiator hose stands a pretty good chance of doing what you request. Or, I can lend you my technicians mirror and my work light. Just pay for shipping.

Go to a parts store and buy a rubber rad hose to put in between the throttle body and the turbo.
Its temporary, so i would only use it for idle purposes.

For idling, you can probably get away with some PVC pipe and an elbow. Make certain you've glued all the pieces together well, because a little vacuum leak can cause a bad idle. If you drive it around, I'd suggest you switch the Premium fuel switch to 'Regular', to help control boost. Stay out of the throttle, because if the PVC bits pop apart, you'll be walking home.
The only issues I see are if you try to drive it hard like that. The heat will build up in the compressed air, which can increase the chance of pinging, thus the recommendation to keep the boost low.
And as others have mentioned, the car won't even start unless you have an enclosed path of air from the VAM to the TB.Gene Beaird,

There's probably a bit of generational gap and most certainly a difference in vernacular between our regions. That being said, I apologize to the op. I realize you meant no ill will in your comments. Glad to hear everything is ok with your problem though. I'm gonna go back to my corner an finish my coloring book now.
