  • stock 23t piston

I just looked at my pistons carefully today. Does the stock pistons have anything stamped on them? Mine have .51 stamped on them. When i brought my svo the owner said it was previous rebuilt by the owner he got it from.

yeah i forgot to eric. after you left i had to take each of my brothers some way. if they need to go some way, they should not work on the cars before that and check fuild levels.

Shooting from the hip here, but 0.51 in millimeters is 0.020". So probably your engine was bored out 0.020" for the rebuild. As for the 8-307 stamp... I saw Speed-Pro hypereutectic pistons referenced in a pdf.

Well, I dunno what the logo means, but hypereutectic pistons have been around since the early 70's and have been common to 80's and later vehicles because of their lower expansion coefficient which allows for closer ring tolerances. (less blow-by and less pollution) I thought the factory SVO engines came TRW pistons? That logo could be some manufacturers brand.

hypereutectic, or Hypercraptic, as I call them, do not work well in high-boost applications.
Everyone I know that has tried to use them in an SVO, has had them fail.

Ah yes, well, the higher silicon content hypereutectic allow is more brittle and highly susceptible to cracking from pre-detonation. I only use forged pistons on... everything.
So what does the 8-307 stamp mean?

so then its a good idea i was thinking about getting or doing another shortblock in the end.
thanks for some of the info about them

I don't know what the 8-307 stamp means, they could be very nice forged pistons! Don't rebuild it on my half assed comments. Is there something wrong with the current short block? I have run stock 2.3Ls as high as 24psi on 108+ octane fuel and the blown the head off... and the stock pistons looked great! AND I have cracked the cylinder walls on different occasions, but the pistons always looked great as well. My experience has been that the factory pistons can take a ton abuse as long as the motor is running properly.

Nothings wrong with it but I'm going be throwing a lot of boost at it when I get my new start up done.

Ahhh yes, well, it is good to review everything before sticking the boost to it!
                            Have fun!
