That's the goal! The 'adding lightness' is just icing on the cake.
Actually, they still have acid, in fact, I think one of the Optimas in our '02 GMC has 'outgassed' some acid vapors, and probably needs to be replaced. I'll be looking at that this weekend. Unfortunately, if it's bad, I'll be replacing both batteries in the truck, so that will hurt.
But that IS the first 'dry cell' I've had that's behaved like that. I believe it's one of the Mexican manufacture Optimas, although I have others in the 'collection'.Gene Beaird,

DZ, all I'm trying to do is get the liquid acid out of the car. I've had too many cars damaged in too many ways to ever want a wet-acid battery in the car. I believe the next new car we buy will get a dry cell dropped in it before ever leaving the driveway. I'm tired of screwing with acid spills.
These days, almost all of the batteries and their parts are recycled.Gene Beaird,

I finally had time amongst all the other projects to get the battery and tray in the car. I still have to get a new ground cable that's a little shorter, so that's the reason the ground is not hooked up to the battery in the pictures. I bolted the Odyssey battery holder to the tray with three stainless button head bolts and lock nuts. When trying to get the tray in (with the battery secured to it), the two bolts that secure the tray to the body wouldn't go in. The button head bolts seemed to be just about 1/4" too long. I inverted those bolts and everything bolted right up.
Now on to other projects, like cleaning the radiator and condensor.Gene Beaird,
