  • AC Accumulator/ Drier

I did a search and found a lot of old threads on this subject but know new ones addressing the issue of the fact that these have been discontinued. I have my engine out and have been rebuilding it. Since the engine has been removed I decided to clean the engine bay and get it repainted so I had to remove the air conditioning equipment. I am not knowledgeable on ac system but from what I have read when you brake the system you need to replace the drier/accumulator. I did the same as everyone else and started searching the internet but have yet to find one. What is everyone doing to resolve this issue? Replace the entire system with the 134 upgrade or is there someone out there that has these parts to keep the original system? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Chad

rockauto.com has lotsof AC replacement parts to include the drier/accumulator.Only part I have ever had trouble finding was the compressor itself.

If you open the AC system mostwill tell you to replace the drier/accumulator for insurance. Aslong as no moisture enters the system or it hasnt been open for too long you might get away with not replacing them. The parts are cheap and they are fairly easy to install so I would replace them.

If everything else is getting painted and rebuilt a new set of AC components will look good.

    Hope this helps.

If you have any luck with this, please post the part numbers you purchased on Rockauto. I know I could use some A/C parts, and it has been hit or miss on guessing parts so far for me.

      Thanks!

I recently re-did everything on my car...although it was perfectly fine...(found the actual problem after I purchased all new stuff) - but anyway - you can get the compressor on ebay (search ebay seller acpartsguys). The accumulator/drier and the liquid line I got locally at AA Cooling, 625 RT 13, Bristol PA 19007, 215-785-2219 - ask for Marc. He's a very knowledgeable Fox chassis/Ford guy.

On another site, i read that one guy was having his drier rebuilt. They were to cut it open and replace the guts.

Personally I would obtain an accumulator that is close and call it a day. Unless you're doing a concourse restoration. The compressor, a/c lines, condenser and evaporator do not care that the dryer is specifically for an SVO. For that matter the car, engine and transmission don't care if you use a (which I am doing) newer, more reliable and more efficient A/C compressor.

Problem is there isn't anything close that will work...at least that's what I was finding when I needed to get new stuff. Parts guy wanted to piece something together for me but it wasn't working out. Luckily I found the place I posted above - fair prices and Ford pieces!

Mike (n20capri), thanx for the info on where you got your parts. I have been battling my own system issues over the past many years and really need to start collecting parts to correct it. Looks like have a phone call to make this winter.

Just FYI I have a SVO compressor for sale. I know the post is a year old but it's worth a shot.
