I have a very small leak on the in oil line to the turbo. Not real bad just some small crystalization. I have some AN 4 line and was wondering if I can use steel braided line with pipe fittings instead of the hard line. Or if this is a no-no or impossible to do. Looks like there are fitting adaters on the turbo with gaskets inbetween.

Will,
I believe you can do that. Motion Dynamics sells one already made up to replace the solid one. I haven't seen one installed, so maybe someone else here has put one on there car and can provide first hand info.

I used the steel braided line and had a failure that caused a fire. I must say that the line would not have failed if I didnt have another part that failed causing excessive heat to hit the line. The steel braided lines are just rubber lines with steel braid around them. I ended up going back to the hard line.
Just my .02 cents.Hoping to get on the track soon

There are different grades of braided steel covered lines. You can get braided steel over a flexible steel line but it's got to be expensive. I don't know if that type of stuff is used in the auto industry. There are lots of plastic/rubber options that should be able to take the heat and pressure. Best bet is to go with someone who knows the application.84 SVO 1 owner, 02 S.Crew, 69 Mustang, 85 McLaren

I installed the bent tubing line fom Motion Dynamics on my car when I first got it. The line was a perfect duplicate of the original and was made from stainless steel. It fit perfect. Now that I have made some changes to things, I have the Braided Stainless line from Motion Dynamics. It fits perfect and comes with all the adaptors you need the go from the thread type on the turbo and engine to the thread type on the braided line. The braided line comes long enough that you can route it as you want to best get it away from a heat source. The material of the Braided line looks identical to the the oil feed line on the turbo on our Dodge shop truck.Last edited by lonchair; 06-24-2003, 01:53 PM.
