Having problems locating the AWSF32C Motorcraft spark plugs. I have called all the local part stores and they are trying to sell me SP-447's ( AGSF32C). I also looked online and they are also referencing back to the SP-447. Will they work? I'm not in desperate need, but would like to keep an extra set on hand.

Personally I haven't used Motorcraft plugs in many moons, so no direct answer to your question. I will say that I have been very pleased with Autolite 764 plugs, can't beat the ~$1/plug cost at Wally World either. It would be good to know if the SP's are a good alternative to the 'old' AWSF's.

umm IF I remember my naming conventions correctly the SP is a PLATINUM plug --- I don't know of anyone in the SVO community that has run a a platinum plug with good success.

Will it work? Probably.. will you have strange hiccups and occasional detonation? PROBABLY

so I hit one of the on-line retailers that has a good selection...
this lists plugs, by composition, copper first, then platinum, then irridium. I have no idea how irridium plugs will run...

I know platinum plugs and our ignition systems don't get along, mainly due to the required energy required to jump the spark gap when boost goes up. The copper plugs have a lower internal resistance and our ignition system can handle the requirements. I know the Iridium plugs are pretty standard on today's vehicles since they last a long, long time without the wear of the copper or even platinum plugs. I don't, however, have any knowledge if they pose any issues with our boosted motors. Maybe someone on here has tried them and can chime in. For the cost of a set or two of plugs a season (i.e.- $4-$8), I have been very pleased with the performance of my 'old school' copper plugs. YMMV

Autolite 764's gapped up to .036 has given me the most power and best running engine.

Resurrecting this, since as with cars our age, the market sometimes changes.

I have been running Autolite 764's for probably 10+ years now and loved you could get a 2-pack for ~$2. My local Wally world no longer carries plugs, so decided to shop around and found that the 764's are a very, very hard find and now list for ~$4 each...huh, a 400% increase?!? I checked Autolite's site and they also list their 104 copper plug for our application. Looking at the specs, it is the same, except that it has 'full' threads vs 'partial' threads, but all other things being the same. So at $1.43 each from Rock Auto, I figured it was worth a shot as I was ordering other stuff too.

I just swapped in a set and have yet to fire my SVO up, but from the looks of things, I think this one should be just fine as a replacement for the old trusty 764's. Below are some pics of a 764 I pulled out and a new 104. I would have to say they are not 'perfectly' the same, but sure are mechanically matched. I can't see any detriment of the full threads, but time will tell. I will check back in when I get a few miles on them. Just wanted to pass this info along.

Ted - 4 pack on ebay are 10 bucks with free shipping. See how the 104 works out. If you need to go back, there is an option. Mike

I know of the Ebay option, just would rather get them from a known retailer/wholesaler...not that I am not known for getting various automotive items from questionable Ebay sellers. I am guessing the market for the 764's is starting to get thin, so mainstream retailers are no longer carrying the 'slow moving' items. I almost feel like I am searching for old lawnmower spark plugs back in the early 80's (ha,ha!).
