  • Wastegate Dump Ideas

I just got Rod's stock mount header with a Tial 38mm External wastegate flange and he's making me a custom 3.5" dowpipe.

I have the dump made and have to decide whether or not to dump the wastegate back into the downpipe or just do it atmospherically.

Is there a performance gain either way.

I would assume that letting it gate to the atmosphere would create more power and also be quite a bit louder.

I'm shooting for 300+hp to the wheels and wanna squeez every once of power I can.

    Thanks

supposedly, from books that ive read: atmosphering the exhaust would make you lose torque and horsepower, because of the lack of backpressure. BUT, creating a seperate exhaust "pipe" that is just the size of your waste gate that is a good length and then empty into the rest of the exhaust would be the best choice for power and torque. 3.5"? thats huge! id say maybe 3" then where your wastegate exhaust combines>>>maybe then i would flare it out to 3.25"

( IMO ) Dumping it into the atmosphere is plain and simply loud and annoying....

I have no clue about any performance gains for dumping it into the atmosphere....but unless the gain is like 10 ponies to the wheels ( which by all means I am sure that its not ) I would rather not listen to the noise.

I;ve heard both ways as far as putting it back into the DP or atmosphere!
