Hi all - I've "bragged" that the SVO was the first fuel injected production Mustang but I'm not sure that's totally accurate. Anyone know?
From what I can find 1984 was the first year for Mustang fuel injection but it may be a three-way tie between the SVO, Turbo GT for MFI while the 5.0's had TFI with automatic transmissions but remained carbureted with the manual for 1984 and 1985. The base 2.3 remained carbureted in 1984 at least (I had one). I'm not sure about the V6. The V8's went to MFI in 1986 both auto and manual.
Does that sound accurate? To get finer grained than that would need to figure out between the three Mustang options available with fuel injection which shipped first in 1984.
At minimum, the 5.0 crowd are wrong in saying 1986 was the first year for MFI since the SVO and Turbo GT both had it two years earlier.
