  • Valve Cover Gasket?

    Hey guys,
i am sure someone has already asked this same question! What is the best valve cover gasket to use? I am currently using the rubber felpro one and just started to leak! Would like to use a better one but no cork please? I can'nt complain to much this one has lasted for 4 years! Jeff

The best one for the money is the steel reinforced rubber one from Ford. It will most likely be the last one you buy.

I had two of the felpro that blew out within weeks of install. The Ford one solved my problem.

I agree. if I remember, its about $50, but I have one on all my cars and have never had any problems.

I think I only paid about $35 for mine. I purchased the OEM metal impregnated seal from a late model 2.3l Ranger.

the ford dealer should have had a note that said replaced by -----

            ask for a gasket for a 87-88 t-bird turbocoupe ---

the ford part # is F57Z-6584-A

OR --- the easiest thing to do -- call SVPU, or Motion Dynamics, and have it delivered to your door, and don't screw with illiterate parts people

Does this mean I should just go ahead and replace that blue FELPRO I just installed under my restored valve cover with the FMC one? No big deal...just wish I would have known this 3 weeks ago
And what was the prefered tightening method for the valve cover? I seem to remember a post of inside-to-out or something like that.

And is that part number good for 85-1/2?

                Valve Cover Gasket

If the Felpro blue you installed isn't leaking, don't replace it. The part number given above is for the 87-88 Turbocoupe gasket. It works just fine on all SVO's 84-86.

It's not leaking because I just instaled it and no miles as of yet..I'm just wondering if I made a poor choise in gaskets? If the general thinking is Ford Gasket is the way to go so be it. I just don't feel like taking this Intake off again!

                    choices

Honestly, I had 25k on the last one. I replaced it when I changed heads on my car. They say you can reuse them but I changed it anyways. My luck wasnt good. all at once a new water pump, new gasket, new header, and one fuel injector went. all were new reman units and all were bad out of the box. I think I pissed someone off.

anyway the felpro works for some but not all. I havent heard of the ford one failing. just my 2cents

hey dudes, im not sure if i posted before when i put my t-bird gasket in..........the front loop thingie kept squeezing out kinda. like the gasket was too thick for the metal to metal. so half of the "loop" is showing a rib. i dont have leaking, but was wondering if there is a trick to put it on. i have no problem with taking the throttle body off again...........................which is all i have to take off, not the intake.
