From what I understand, the one made by Kirban is the one that SVO preferred suppliers here sell. Check out their web sites or give them a call.

The 3-bolt regulator is not SVO specific. The one off a 5.0 will work. The only difference is supplied by the boost from the engine.

Zero manifold vacuum in a N/A situation provides ~38-41 PSI rail pressure. Boosted to stock SVO levels, you can expect to see 48-55PSI, and more with an adjustable regulator with a healthy fuel pump.

Yup - any fpr designed for a 5.0 will work on our cars too. There's quality issues with a few of them on the market though .. and that reason alone would be why many SVO owners use the Kirban regulators.

I have one - and just about every SVO I see now-a-days use one as well. My FFR has a Paxton FPR on it .. and because I've had problems with that brand before (leaking) - it will be coming off my Cobra here shortly. Engine fires and fiberglass don't mix well.

How hard is it to install one? Also do you need a Fuel pressure gauge to adjust it or can you do it without one? My car is a basic stock older 85' SVo right now.

          Thanks

I just installed my Kirban FPR yesterday. I pulled off the upper intake manifold and the fuel rail for easy access to the three bolts. I had them off when I was installing my new braided oil feed line, so it wasn't a huge deal. Then again, pulling off the upper manifold isn't really a big deal anyways.

Yes, you should get some sort of fuel pressure gauge. You have no way of determining your fuel pressure setting on an adjustable FPR without one.

I was just wondering, because a) I never messed with a fpr and b) I was trying to get out of having to many gauges in my car

I wonder if I could bolt it under the hood some where out of sight lol

                Under the hood?......

I don't know if you'd like that......It's nice to know my fuel pressure is good when I turn my key 'on'/ would narrow things down if the car weren't to start......Plus under boost to see where you start & finish on the FP......Don't want to run lean....

Most of the guages I've seen on the preferred SVO supplier list here have the type that mount directly on the fuel rail on the shrader valve.

Anyone happen to know the thread size on the shrader valve? Looking for some way to attach my new Nordskog fuel pressure gauge which has a 1/8" fitting. I tried to use the Autometer part which replaces our entire schrader valve, but I couldn't thread a 1/8" fitting into it.

                      Ok tell me more

First whats a shrader valve lol Sorry, I've never worked on a EFI car before, always carbs and MSD. Where can you get a gauge for this vavle, it really needs to be oil filled also?

I understand how important it can be to view a Fp gauge, but when you add a Oil pressure, Boost, and water temp it gets a little rough to watch them all and make sure every thing is working right. I'm not sure where I would mount them all anyways

The shrader valve is like the little valve inside the tire stem. On my '86, there are two locations to mount it. One is on the fuel rail itself, the other is an inline fitting that is on the driver side firewall.

You can get one at SVPU.com, Motion Dynamics, 5.0 resto, and here is a pic from Sac-Mustangs site.

Thats cool. so it should just screw in the sharder and then install a FPR and I'm good to go ?

                          Thanks

Yes. Ironically you won't need it for a long time though. With all the mods I have to increase airflow (which should lean the car out) I actually turned the base pressure DOWN to get the car to run 12:1 at WOT and 6 grand...stock or anything over was pig rich. Hell, even turned down it's pig rich under 4500rpm at WOT.

                              HALLELUJAH!!!

Finally someone said the opposite of the status quo answer! In one SVO, I have a vacuum check valve installed backwards in a tee fitting to my pressure regulator to bleed off any high boost signal. There are no deleterious effects. This car is the highest mileage of my cars, the cleanest emissions wise, and just plain fun to drive. I just may try this on the other cars.
