  • Turbo to manifold stud question

Do you need any special studs and nuts to connect the turbo to the manifold or can I just use what they sell at the auto parts store?

I just got a new turbo and E6 but no studs.

Also for the gasket, which way should it be mounted...the "bump" towards the turbo, or the manifold?

    Thanks!
Hoping to get on the track soon

    Vince,

Here's the stud part # & nut part - you can find them in the parts picture gallery (you'll have to look in posts from last year). Sorry that I don't have the nut part # listed, it is an important part and you need to use this nut so it won't come off (a standard nut & lock washer won't work for long). I'll try to look for the part # - SVPU has this nut as well as other vendors. Mike is right as well, there is a Cummings replacement nut.

Part #10 - Here is a picture of the oval nut (self locking) that goes on the exhaust to turbo studs and the exhaust manifold stud/bolts. - part # - ?

Here's what I have saved in my SVO files:

For turbo E6 studs and nuts:
I just bought a set of these this week. Here are the part #'s
        3818823 (stud) 3818824 (nut)

I went the diesel section of the yellow pages and started calling truck shops and one of them gave me the phone # for the local Cummins reseller.

The ideal ones should have two lengths - ~43mm for the top two and ~48mm for the lowers to accomade the thickness of the required brace. You are running a brace, right?

The thread size is 10mm x 1.5 on both ends as stated above.

        and

        Stud/nut info:
Here is a source for turbo studs and nuts for those who need a supplier:
"We have both reproduction stock studs & stainless steel studs. We also have the original style "crushed" locking nuts too. The prices are as follows...

Stainless Steel Studs - $5.50 each
        Stock Studs - $5.70 each
Crushed Style Nuts - $1.80 each"

Strange. Mine have M10x1.5 on one end, and a finer thread on the other. Unfortunately, I got the Cummnis nuts, which don't fir my threads. UGH!

Called around and a CarQuest up in the next town has some 50mm studs. Dragpak uses 47mm studs. Ought to be able to make them work. Maybe this is why one nut went missing, and the others came off with little effort. Probably the source of my exhaust leak.

Idiots... Got up there and they pull out a bolt... How well they listen...
Anyway... Went arround the corner and they had the studs. YEA!
Got some done tonight. On to update my rebuild thread.
