relay clicking ?

ok -- this is a new one on me -- maybe someone else has heard of this --

A few months ago, my SVO started what I thought was a squeek under the dash (above the pedals)

After doing a tune-up last weekend, I found out that the squeek was not a squeek at all, but a black box clicking rappidly.

The box (it's not really square) is mounted on the steering column, right above the clutch pedal. It is black, and feels to have about 8 wires running into it.
Sorry my description is vauge, It was getting dark, and I didn't have enough light to see the markings, and it was time to quit for the day anyway.

I'm drawing a blank on what is going on ????
I'll try to crawl under the dash, and see what this little box is-- or at least get a part number or something off it.
anyone have any ideas ?

Black Box

Sounds like the windshield wiper governor. It's inline between the wiper switch and the wiper motor. There is a relay controlled by an electronic circuit which pulses the wipers when in interval mode. by the way it's obsolete!

The A/C & fan controller mounts near there and has 8 wires running to it as well. It's a black box with red/orange Ford and TRW signage on it.

I'm not running the stock fan controler -- so I don't think this is what is making the noise -- I guess it is possible one of the old wires is hitting something ???

If that is what it is -- I will just unplug that sucker --
is there anything else that runs through that box ?

I had the same problem untill last weekend-

same problem, relay buzzing.
I had swapped out the module w/ 2 other ones, no change.
I swapped out the FAN, and it runs perfectly now. I guess the fan worked, but drew too much current.

I found my clicking -- it was the Fan controler...

I was thinking that thing was farther 'up' in the dash..

anyway -- it had a nice burned spot on it where the connector slides on. I would have taken a pic, but I already tossed it.

Like I said -- I am using a aftermarket fan controller, so it wasn't needed anyway.

what probably happened was when I installed the new fan controler, I cut the wires running to the fan -- I cut them back in the harness -- & wrapped them in tape. Aparently one of them got out and was rubbing against something!!

note to self -- use heat shrink on those from now on---

Fan Relay

Just my 2 cents worth! I gutted the old fan relay panel board and slid the clip back to the end so the wires do not hang down and no chance of touching what they are not suppose to! And it looks like it is still there from looking up under the dash.

well -- here it is -- burns and all --

the "top" is flipped up, so I can gut it -- that is why you can see the TRW

EDIT -- WOW that thing is easy to gut -- pop the top, and it all falls out ..
