  • Transmission Ratios?

I was just wondering what the end result would be in going to different transmission ratios in our cars would be. The way I understand it our cars have this: (86)
    1st 3.50
    2nd 2.14
    3rd 1.36
    4th 1.00
    5th .78
Was wondering the effect of this:
    1ST 3.27
    2ND 1.98
    3RD 1.34
    4TH 1.00
    5TH .68
I'm assuming it will slow the "quickness" of the car, while incresing top speed?
    Please advise, and thanks,

Hmm. The ratios ou list don't show up here:

    at all.

Essentially, its as exactly as you mentioned. It will be a little harder getting out of first (would be suprised if its noticeable) and the .68 should bring down your cruisng RPM (typically is ~3K rpms @70 mph) and / or increase your overall top-end.

I'm thinking of going to the Tremec. (I know there's a "little" modification needed here. So, basically if I don't notice the "harder getting out of first" and the crusing RPM is lowered, that would be a pretty good thing...Hmmmm.....

Just looking around...and found this Tremec from X2CMotorsports. It seems to be the closest (gear ratio-wise) that I have found. My SVO is coming completely apart in the coming weeks and was debating on re-building vs. buying new vs. modding the tranny in the car.
Here is a link to the one I was looking at (remember...just looking):

So maybe something with a lower numerically first and second with something in the same range for fifth + or - say 5-7% would be really good. Anyone know how the 5.0 tranny matches up?

              ratios

ok. so it is not a t-5. i though from your original post that was what you were talking about. just for grins and giggles: in the old days before ford had a 4 speed( and all the general motors did) i used a 5.43 rear gear and used 2nd and 3rd only. ol mississippi redneck in a ford galaxie was never dusted by the 348,4 speed, solid lifter, tri power chevies nor the 389, 4 speed, solid lifter, tri power pontiac venturas.
