  • What are my wastegate options?

I have the ATR down pipe with the integral valve puck and of course the ATR header. For now I'm using the stock T3. I believe the wastegate has gone bad and I'm looking for a replacement. Any suggestions?

ATR has one. Their advertisng as an adjustible unit. It's in their Grand National section. How does the adjustible unit work? (I'm thinking adjustible spring) Is it worth $130?

Obviously, Motion Dynamics has one for $100. Is this the way to go.

My goal is to eventually run 21 psi at Mid-Ohio. (and well other road courses around the country)

    tested

Have you tested the actuator? try adding compressed air about 8-10 psi to see if the actuator moves if so then it is fine. Another easy test is if you disconect the vac line to the actuator and blow through it if you can the diagphram is shot. Most times it is not the actuator that is bad it is something else.

As far as new ones goes 100 is reasonable. Motion dynamics gives a disc to members.

We go up there when the Shelby Club rents out the track for the day. There's a few cars we take. I am hoping to run the SVO if I can get it running reliablely. You all should come that would great. It's held on Friday the July 9th. We also on occasion go to Nelson Legends.

The deal with the car is that the turbo is spooling very fast and the guage is peged instantly. Simply put it, acts like the diaphragm in the wastgate in bad. I'll check it out tonight with the blow technique.

Ahh yes, the Shelby club. They usually have a date in August though, do you know why they changed it..? or do they have 2 this year...?

In anycase, Back to the issue at hand.

You should consider running less than 24 on a stock T3 due to the fact that its pretty much out of its efficiency range at that point and your just making "heat".

You should be able to find a used internal one that is decent on here or turboford.org with no problems.

I wouldnt recommend going the external route until you are well into a T3/4 and experiencing severe boost creep / spike.

How are you regulating boost..? If its pegging instantly I would first look into whatever device you are usuing to control boost.

Turn it back down to 15-18psi ( usuing stock components ) ...if it holds it more than likely not the wastegate.

If you set it to 15-18psi ( usuing stock componets ) and it shoots to 24 ...then look into the wastegate.

Gator. It's nice speaking to someone that knows what he's talking about. Meaning, yes your correct about the T3. At this point I rebuilt the engine totally. Forged crank, rods, pistons, the whole works. Moving onto the T03/04 and all the rest of the bolt-ons is what I'll be working toward in the up comming year. Oh yes the boost controller it's a flaming pile. I want an electronic controller any suggestions? All I know at this point is I do not want that two stage thing. This is is a road and track car not... dare I say... fast and furious.

As far as the wastegate, I'm being shiped one from Motion Dynamics. Question: Do I want to install the wastegate with zero tension? If so what is that equivlate too?

Mid-Ohio: One per year. Not sure why they move it up. It's welcome since last year it was frezzing in September. Your right for the last decade it's been in August.

Well, as far as electronic boost controllers are concerned, you may be talking to the wrong guy...I have been usuing an aqarium valve that I bought for 5 bucks for the last 10 years I have owned the car Seems to work just fine.

IMO electronic boost controllers arent worth the x-tra cost over something like a gillis valve ( ball and check ) or an aqaurium valve. But again, thats just my opinion.

As for the wastegate, im not sure what you mean by "zero tension"...

The best thing would be to take the old wastegate off, measure the length of the rod. Adjust the new one to similiar length and put it back on.

There should be tension on the rod that holds the "flapper door"
