  • Power Steering Pump Lines loose at Rack?

While tightening up loose bolts underneth the car. I found the main Power Steering lines loose at the rack. I tried to tighten the fittings down, but hey are tight, I even backed them off, expected them and reinstalled them. The nuts are tight but the lines are still real loose, I think they will leak. Any advise? The line going to the pump is also real loose. Also.. do the SVO's have power steering coolers? There might be a fitting I am missing.. UGH!!

The pressure hose is designed to swivel after being tightened. I just installed a rack last weekend. Separate O-rings and teflon seal are available. Many folks fall into the trap of replacing the complete hose assemblies when it's just the O-rings that need replacement.

        No P/S cooler on them.

My '86 has a low pressure ltube that loops around in front of the a/c condensor. I think this is the P/S cooler. No fins, just a steel tube.

You will have problems if you bypass this hose ---

I had a mustang (2.3) that had the line bypassed, and after driving for 1/2 hour, the pump would overflow.

The steel PS cooling line is standard on every Fox body I've ever worked on ( 84 to 93 ). I also have it on my 94 F-150 with the 300 I-6. Pretty much standard Ford stuff I guess...
