  • 6 wires going into the distributor.

I have a situation with the 6 wires going into the distributor, they have all broke on the SVO I just got.

I wanted to know where on the web I could find an electrical diagram inicating the color code of each wire, top to bottom. I bought the 4 book Ford 1984 Shop manual, and I can't for the life of me find an electrical wiring diagram.

The wires thatare in the connector all appear to be black with age. I will peel the tape back, but I need to know what order they go in.

This is the first step in many to get an SVO back on the road, so I would appreciate any and all help.

Are they still connected and just the insulation missing. If so you can get a replacement pigtail from here http://forced4.com/23store.html and just replace one wire at a time while paying attention to where it goes. If they are totally cut apart then maybe someone else can give you that info.

      They are totally cut apart.

It has been sitting for 5 years, and apparently something thought they tasted good...

Here goes, from the Ford 1984 Mustang/Capri wiring diagram:

From the top of the TFI module plug, the colors of the 6 wires are:

#1 Black with Orange Stripe or Black (no stripe)

#2 Dark Green with Yellow Dots

#3 Red with Light Green Stripe

#4 Red with Light Blue Stripe

#5 Yellow with Light Green Dots (Spout)

        #6 Dark Blue (no stripe)

Peel back some of the foil farther up stream on the harness until you can I.D. the proper wire colors. You should solder and heat shrink the joints to all splices you make between the harness and your new TFI plug pigtail. DO NOT USE CRIMP ON CONNECTORS!!!

Just last Tuesday I removed the throttle body on a 2.3 Turbo motor to replace the VC gasket. As I was putting it back together I noticed an "extra" wire sticking out around the TPS/IAC area not connected to anything. A crimp on connector installed by a previous owner (I had only owned the car 2 days!) had come loose and the wire was no longer connected to the IAC. I promptly cut out the offending crimp connectors and replaced them with proper soldered/heat shrunk connections.

You can buy solder, a soldering iron and heat shrink tubing at Radio Shack. Use the flame from a butane lighter to heat shrink the tubing once it's positioned over the solder joint.

          He speaks the truth!!

the heat shrink tubing is about the only thing that is waterproof too.

Where do you get a wiring diagram?

I bought what I thought was a complete 1984 shop manual, a total of 5 books, including the SVO supplement. Guess what, I can't find a wiring diagram. Is there another volume that I am missing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

              Wiring Diagrams

I've got the same wiring diagram that Mike has. They came stapled together in addition to the 4 or 5 bound volumes from Helm, Inc. in 1984 when you purchased a complete set of Shop Manuals for a 1984 SVO and cost about $125. I bought mine right after I bought my SVO, just like Mike did!

Sometimes you see the stapled diagrams on eBay, but they are rare and hard to come by.

From the 1986 Electrical and Troubleshooting Manual...

that Eyelawdoc delivered with my 86 SVO a while back.

                Page 99.

                16: R/LG to coil + and EEC
                32: R/LB to starter relay
                56 : DG ckt 349 to EEC
                36: Y/LG D C275 (SPOUT) ckt 324.
                16: BK/O ckt 259.
11: DG/Y to coil tach side and EEC with 22k ohm resistor after tach and before EEC 11.

Someone compile and post this in FAQ please!
