valve spring removal tips

Hi guys and girls. I am looking for tips on how to remove valve springs with the head on the engine. I have a air compressor, just too chicken to try using air to hold the valve up. Using the rope trick, do I put the cam on its base circle at the rocker then feed the rope in? I would imagine this is TDC. Any tips or steps would be appreciated.

Me and my partner did this write up after seeing the long and lengthy posts on this subject (not this thread in particular). Check it out, the compressor thing is not that bad if you have a magnetic tool (no comments pat).
