What type of sound if any, do you hear from the Compressor Bypass kit offered by Forced4, or any other brand? Are most people running the compressor bypass valve, or a blow off valve setup. Which blow off valve seems to work the best?. I know the second part of this question has been covered to death, but it seems like I have seen alot of new types of blow off valves lately. Thanks. :p
Our kit produces little to no sound when operating correctly. Our set up is designed so that unmetered air does not leave the system. The only type of set up that you will hear noise from is a blow off valve. If you chose to go that route I recomend a dual piston design. Due to professional courtesy I cannot recomend someone elses unit over another. But I am sure you know who makes the other styles.
I have the a bypass kit from Tiny Avenger which should be basicly the same as Forced4. (ask Forced4) Mine makes a slight whistle in noise which I like. It tells me it's working! Makes a BIG difference when using a bigger turbo and/or higher boost pressures, which I have both. Maybe if I took the valve apart and put a little lube (VERY LITTLE) it might quiet it but as I said I like the whistle! The problem with a blow off valve is it screws up the A/F ratio because it dumps air AFTER the vane air meter so you end up running rich.
Jacarico noise? If set up correctly you shouldnt hear anything unless the valve is in backwards then you will hear a honking noise. maby a little lube will help? but you are correct that the TA and forced4 kit are Identical in every way. i have run one for 5 years now at 18-21 psi with no issues.
I seem to remember hearing someplace that the valve can be installed backward and it would still work fine. Don't remember if they said anything about noise. I'll try reversing it next spring when I pull the car out from hibernation. Maybe not. I do like the sound of it!!!! Maybe I'll have to drive down so you can hear it.
I just installed my kit from Forced 4 this past weekend, i just had to alter my cold air kit for it but i am very happy. It got rid of the annoying noise the open element filter made between shifts.
I have a Japanese brand HKS blow off valve. JDM BIATCH! j/k, hate rice but the valve is great. Its the SSQV Super Sequential Valve (sp). It has a dual piston type design that uses vacuum to open the valve instead of the traditional spring type that leaks boost. Anyway, it has a small piston to open at low boost pressures and a larger piston for high boost. This way, its universal and the sound is tight. Sounds like a machine metallic type whistle with a rush of air and gets louder the more boost but VERY noticeable cool sound at low boost such as streets.
When i had my bypass kit, it was perfect, no noise unless boosting 18 psi, then a slight hiss. Driveability was perfect. With my blow off valve if it blows off at 5psi or more, and when i come to a stop, or if i completely release the throttle into neutral after a hard boosting the engine will act as if it is going to turn off during idle speed until i guess the IAC adjusts itself. Kinda feels like the IAC is unplugged for about a second for those of you who have felt this. It wont do it if your holding the gas down the whole time or coasting down in gear but at some point you will need to fully release the gas (stop light) and then the idle will slow to 200 for 1 to 2 secs, then normal. Oh well, my A/F gauge drops off beyond the max lean only during blowoffs and during that weird idle, then goes away.
