  • Fuel Pulse Damper

Whats the deal with this, is it necessary for the car to run properly or can I remove it. I think it's sticking after the car sits awhile. Can I buy it from Ford? Anyone have the part#
    Thanks

    Fuel Pulse Damper

I don't know if the car can run without it, never tried. Part #E5ZE-9F775-AA (for a 1986 SVO anyway). Good luck finding one, if you do, let me know. The only NOS engine/fuel part I haven't found yet.

dsrk98, Your car will run without the dampener, I performed the test just after getting my car. I didn't have my fuel pressure gauge yet, so I don't know exactly what the negative effects of running without it are. Are you sure you don't have a problem with your regulator (mounted on the fuel rail)? Better question is, what problems are you experiencing that is pointing you to the dampener?

The thing is, there really is nothing inside the dampener, it is just a reservior to hold fuel. Its purpose is to smooth out the fuel flow because of the batch firing of 2 injectors at once.

        Thanks

Thanks for the info, I think this because someone told me, not that I really know. I just wanted to ask to see if it may be the problem. When car sits a day or so it starts then runs rough until I rev it a couple of times, then it smooths out. This happens only sometimes.

It sounds as if your fuel system isn't fully pressurizing just before start-up. This could be due to something not acting properly in the fuel system (i.e.- an ailing pump, dirty fuel filter or ailing regulator, etc). You could try turning the ignition to run, then off and back to run a couple of times before starting the car after it has sat for a day or so. This will ensure your fuel system is pressurized and filled. If it gets rid of the problem, you might need to hook up a fuel pressure gauge to further diagnose the issue. HTH.
