  • VAM tube part number

my newest car has a custom homedepot vam tube. does anyone know what the ford part number is or where i can get one. thanks

    Not going to find it

I assume you're looking for the ribbed hose from the VAM to the turbo inlet? That hose has been the source of much discussion if you search the old threads. It is not readily available in NOS, so you're best bet is junkyard or some generous person (thanks Ken) on the board who has a few spares. They often get chaffed or worn thru so many creative solutions are devised, including using dryer ducting and other materials. The Ford part number is E4ZZ-9B697-A FYI.

The Ford parts listing is usually wrong. NOS ones can be found but not at the dealer. They were $70 or more new. The Ford listing is for a Turbo coupe with the smaller tube on one end. I probably posted the number here long ago. If memory serves me the Ford listing was -C and the correct numer was -A.

If you are junkyard shopping, the VAM hose for a 87-88 Tbird TC works fine. The 87-88's used the large VAM, so it is the right size hose for the SVO.

Thanks all, That helps alot that is what i thought was the part number but i didnt know if that was for the smaller tube.

And i tryed searching the old forums but i couldnt think of a word long enough to do a search on. VAM was to short.

Will the tube from a merk. xrti... work.

What's wrong with the home depot one? If it works leave it.

Its important that no metered air (air that has passed through the VAM) is lost en route to the turbo inlet. Hence, it is important that the VAM tube is sealed at each end, which the rubber & hose clamps ensure. If you can guarentee the Depot method is sealed then no worries. The flexible metal tubing (dryer ducting) is prone to cracking and I would doubt the seal integrity.

I hope he doesn't mean the home depot stuff is dryer ducting that is garbage and should be replaced ASAP.

                  Right..I remember

Kevin, I remember that the SVO part number, per the Ford Parts Master we have is E4ZZ-9B697-A while the T-Bird is E4ZZ-9B697-B. Something was fishy with these part numbers and they may be reversed. Not 100% sure which one has the smaller end, though. I'll post a couple pics of the Ford Parts master here later.

I am using the 3 inch hi temp orange stuff used for brake ducts. Very tough and pretty cheap. A hose supply place in your area may sell it by the foot.

Mine didn't come from Home Depot, but because of space restrictions after installing a bypass valve kit from Forced4, I am using a 4 inch long silicone reducer,3 inches at one end and 2.75 inches at the other with a 3 inch long piece of a tupperware plastic drinking glass inside to keep it from colapsing. It works like a charm!

I looked up my receipts from 1997. They sold me the -B part first and it didn't fit. That was what was listed on the computer page. We went back and found the -A listed under a turbo kit for the SVO only. Yes it was fishy!

Here is a link the hose I used, plenty flexible, though I have seen it cheaper than this.
Our Silicone Air Duct Hose is great for brake cooling ducts (rated to 550F). It is very flexible, but a spring-steel support coil inside prevents it from collapsing.
