  • C.v.o.s. Removal

Does anyone have info on removing the crankcase vent oil seperator canister? I would like to get it out with all the other components intact, intake, ditributor, etc. is there an easy way to do this? The reason I am attempting this is I found out the bottom of the pcv valve is gone, either broken off or what I don't know. Also I'm not sure if the broken pieces would end up the the canister or where. !
On another note, what would be the cause of excessive vacum at the oil filler cap and/or dipstick tube? I had read on another post about the idle change when removing the the oil cap, but my idle barely changes, just ALOT of vacum, you can hear the air being sucked in when you try to remove the cap. Any info would be helpfull, thanks!

To get the oil seperator out you will have to remove the intake manifold. I doubt that the bottom of your missing PCV valve could get through the seperator. You could try to get the lower pcv hose off, it has a 90 degree bend in it and would probably catch any pieces.

It is normal to have a vacuum leak when you remove the oil cap, these cars have a closed PCV system and any openings will draw in air. If you have any air leaks the computer will try to "learn" them and after a period of time it will smooth out the idle.

      I second that...

I know for a fact, that the oil seperator will not come out with the intake on..

BTW: if you replace the oil seperator, it will be slightly different than the original, and you will have to move your pcv valve...(not a big deal)

I had assumed the intake would have to be removed, just hoping it wasn't true. If the broken pieces of the pcv valve ended up in the canister,(they are not in the lower pcv hose) could the canister be plugged up? If it is, what is the downfall of it being plugged up? What is inside of the canister?
        Thanks for the help, Zen
