  • Its amazing..............

Well i got an email from the previous owner. He says he has .030 over, DISHED, FORGED pistons for me. The correct ones. I have to call and confirm whom paid for them, but either way i guess i'm finally getting the right stuff together. Actually why should i care who paid for them . as long as i get them in my hands.

Now if i can just get a head and get it finished. i'll be set. Man it sucks trying to coordinate things when your out of the country.

Ummm in one answer for all, NO.

the engine still in the car and since i'm about 2000 miles from the car, its going to have to wait till i get back home.
once i get home i'll probably just yank the engine and have this other engine builder in DFW buld the bottom end.

If he used stock rods and etc. it shoudl be floating wrist pins, Correct? as for rings I'm not sure yet.
The only word i got was that i had some new pistons waiting for me.

any suggestions? rings? wether to go floating or press pins? i know it depends also on the pistons he got me, so i guess i'll have to wait and see what i have under the tree for me.

right now i'm trying to track down a good head thats relatively close to my house. thats my next concern. If i was home i would be at pick a parts pulling heads on other 2.3 looking for a good canidate.

Honestly i don't have the place or tools to do the engine rebuild myself. Also experience is lacking. I know quite a bit about engines but never built one from the ground up. I'm sure if i had someone to help walk me through it i can learn quick. Heck i work on helicopters for a living can't be that hard.

You might try placing a bid for item #8016666892 on that auction site. The head resides in Richarson, TX. Maybe you can have your wife drive over and pick it up.

I am bidding on it, I think i'm the winning bidder SO FAR............ i asked the guy if he had a buy it now price. He wanted 250.00 to end it now. I figure i'll try other resources and watch the auction.
It might get that high but who knows.

Anybody got a good deal on an essy. head? Maybe i should wait till after xmas and pony up the cash for one of those. Then it will be one less thing to worry about.

Well i found out what kind of pistons i'm getting. they are Sealed power Pistons. I found out they are the top pistons from federal mogul. The good thing is they are dished and designed for turbo application. its on there website.

I'm guessing they are forged, but trying to find out for sure. it says direct replacement for turbo apps.

I would love to build the motor with the best of the best, but i figure since i'm not trying to break the 400hp mark anytime soon, i should be fine. Besides with xmas around the corner, and other work needing to be done i just need the car to be reliable and run good. Not like a monster =)

The stock rods and pistons as Mike intimated are set up for press-in pins. I'm sure that's what your new forged Sealed Power pistons are set up for. That is plenty good for a strong street motor.

Man this sucks i just got through readin on turbotbird and i found on a couple websites that these pistons are damn Hypereutetics. they are dished, but still junk pistons.

Looks like i'll be buying pistons after all. Man this sucks. I'm going to see if i can get forged ones, but i think i'll be pushing my luck.

UGGGHHHHhhH!!!!!! *thinking to oneself* Just suck it up and do it right the first time. then HOPEFULLY you'll have no more problems.

The part number you want for forged .030 over dished top pistons is Speed Pro L2500F75MM. The "F" is for forged. Summit sells them for $49.99 each.

One engine that I got out of a 88tc had the hypereutetics in them.
On the inside you can see where they were stamped.
It was a rebuilt engine and the gaps on the rings were way to big. Lots of blow by.
Buy the new ones and have a good time rebuilding that engine.
Time to clean up the engine bay!

I'm just going to do it right the first time.

I have sealed power TRW's and they are FORGED, not hybercraptic

I still have the box sitting right here, and the part number is L2500F

and even tho it goes against my better judgement, a google search brings up summit first-- so here ya go

well i didn't get a part number but the ones i found were 599p on the federal mogul website which has all the listings for sealed power.

I'll just have to wait and see. Damn i hate the waiting game.

Oh hope ya'll had a good thanks giving. I'll have to give it to the locals where i'm at, they don't celebrate thanks giving , but they tried hard to make a good dinner.
I should've taken a pic of the mashed potatoes, They didn't look edible, but tasted good.

                          my experience....

Unless you are making a ton of power the hyperpatheitcs SHOULD do fine.

The stock ones in my 93 cobra did fine up until 169k miles or so. This including being abused by a 150 shot of nitrous for 50k miles and then swapping over to the Procharger D-1 seeing 14psi (525rwhp/532rwtq)for about 4-5k miles. Cracked #8 piston after either getting bad gas or due to my tune not being final

you are talking 8 psi boost vs 20 -- (most of it's life)

Hypercraptic (not a mispelling) will not hold up under the boost pressures run in a SVO.

                            It's been proven MANY times

well i confirmed that they are the hypercrap**** pistons. I'm going to see if they will exchange them.

QUESTION: Did the stock pistons come forged?

If all elese fails i'll buy some TRW's

I will not be putting hyper anything in my car except for the hyper active dog.
