  • timing belt noise

Still chasing funny noises in the attempt to have the car sound like new again. I have searched on several occasions and found some cars out there that seem to do this as well as mine but no answer to the problem.

After warming up the timing belt starts to make a squeaking or schusshing type of noise. When the car is cold, no noise. I took off the cover and isolted the noise to the cam pulley right as the belt rolls onto and off of the pulley it will make a small squeak. This translates to an almost grinding noise outside of the cover. The belt is new, tensioner new, all properly installed and tensioned. Do I need a different belt or am I wasting my time to do that?

I am hoping to make the 200 mile trek to Silver Springs this weekend and fear a breakdown is potential. Anyone that has experienced this problem and or has a fix for it?

I had the same problem. I changed the belt and tensioner, and it has dissappeared.

In talking with SVOeric (prior to my wrenching), he said it possibly could be the cam seal, but mine ended up being the belt. Does the belt track back-and-forth from front to back as it rotates? Mine did, but only after it warmed up.

You could go and get round-tooth pullies off a newer ranger, they're supposed to be quieter and worth a couple three hp too
The BATFE should be a convenience store.

The tensioner and pulley are new but it does track back and forth, it did that before the new stuff as well. I assumed that the change would fix the problem. Perhaps other bearings like crankshaft and camshaft? Is there any way to check them?

If they are worn am I safe to make the 400 mile round trip this weekend?

I am probably going to go after the round tooth pulleys either way. Are they available from the later 90-93 Mustang as well?

My old TB made a weird clicking/whirring noise and I could see it moving back and forth as it went around. I changed the belt and the noise went away and it tracks straight now.

the belt should track straight -- if it don't something in the system isn't straight, or the belt is worn, Make sure it's not tensioned too tight, or too loose..

I am going to swap on the tensioner that is on the spare motor in my garage tomorrow. If that does not work I will go for the new belt. I will report back.

What parts are involved in the round tooth pulley, is it just a pulley or do you have to get the lower as well?
