  • head rebuild/replace question

    More newbie questions:

I noticed my SVO smokes upon startup. What does it cost to get a head redone? Also, what heads are interchangeable with the SVO motors? Are the turbocoupe heads the same? Is there anything else I should have done to the head other than the valves seals?

The car has 101k miles on it. It smokes pretty good and runs crappy for about 10 seconds or so until it clears itself out and then it is fine. It only does it if you let it sit for a while. There is a machine shop here that I am comfortable dealing with but I think I may just end up rebuilding the whole engine. I'm not really interested in performance gains. I'd like to keep it mostly stock.

I'll run a search on the heads.

    Thanks.

Luckily there is a place here that specializes in Ford engines, and does 2.3 on a regular basis, and alot of 9-12k RPM circle track engines too.
As soon as I can get my roller cam and rockers, my head work will commence. Oversize valves, new springs, port and polish with new seals, guides, bearings and Cam tower straps. Assembled and flowtested..........$400.00.

My total bill was 600 for a new head, with new everything. I didn't reuse anything from the old head, Except my Cam . I got bigger vavles, P&P work, new seats, deck the head, etc, etc.............. I just had a good friend hook me up and he had some contacts.
I'd say i got a great deal, which i needed.
