  • Roller Cam Swap

    hi All,
did some searches on this but am still a little unsure. My 93 LX 2.3L has a roller cam and I'm think I'm gonna swap it with the slider in my SVO. These two should interchange ok if the rollers are the cast variety right?? I'm not sure exactly what type they are but I'll check and see. Need to pull the TC valve cover of the car anyway.

not sure about the cam,but i know there are two types of roller followers one set does not fit over the valve stem.the slot is too narrow i believe.i checked over on turbo ford, and the info over there said you need 1993 and older followers so you should be ok.

      Dragpak

Ask Dragpack about this. He ran into the problem with the valve slots in the roller followers being too narrow. i thought his were cast though. I guess he machined them to fit. I just did the swap using an earlier Ranger roller cam and the Essy tool and found the Essy valve tool is too narrow to clear the wider followers. I had to spread the jaws a little to allow clearance. Just be sure the wider stance doesn't allow the jaw to touch the cam lobes themselves. It also took some mauvering to get the roller followers in there and clear of the lifter initially and then seated on the valve stem and the lifter due to the height of the rollers themselves. Eventually they all went in.

It is only 95+ Ranger followers that present a problem. Anything off of a Mustang will work fine.
