  • 2.3 Engine Block Question

I'M ABOUT TO START RESTORATION ON MY 85.5 SVO. I KNOW THAT THE BLOCK IS NOT ORIGINAL AND WAS WONDERING HOW YOU CAN TELL IF IT IS A 85.5 BLOCK OR NOT. WHAT NUMBERS SHOULD I LOOK FOR OR IS THERE NO REAL DIFFERENCE.
    THANKS FOR THE HELP!

Technically, there is no difference... where the only difference is the part number on the side of the block, and I believe the last 5 numbers in the vin should be stamped into the block also.

If your block is not original, find a machineshop with a Bridgport mill. They should be able to machine flat the surface with the VIN and then re-stamp the bock with your VIN. Harley guys do this all the time when having to put new cases in their Sporsters. Had it done to my Dad's engine last week.
