"Heat range is a spark plug's ability to carry heat from the combustion chamber away from the tip of the spark plug to the shell of the spark plug. The shell then transfers this heat to the engine head (and water jacket or cooling fins) through the gasket or tapered seat of the spark plug. The objective is to have a spark plug that runs hot enough at low speeds to burn away combustion deposits yet cold enough at high speeds to avoid pre-ignition. "

" It is important to remember that a hotter or colder spark plug only refers to the temperature of its own insulator tip, and it does not affect the temperature of the engine or combustion chamber in any way. "
