  • TFI Pigtail Question; what does each wire do?

Can someone tell me what each of the wires going into the TFI does? I have two green wires going into the TFI pigtail on my car and am wondering if they might have been swapped. My car seems to be retarding timing when it should be advancing it. As soon as I flip the switch from regular to premium while idling it stumbles and dies. If I rev it in neutral the turbo spools up a little bit. When I go back to the regular mode it clears right up and idles like it should and runs well until I really get on it at WOT.

I replaced my TFI the other day but nothing changed. I have a distrubutor on order and I will install it this weekend but in the meantime I have my suspicions about the guy who installed the TFI pigtail. He completely removed the SPOUT and used only black wires. I had to trace the wiring back pretty far to find any with colors and wasn't surprised to find that they weren't the colors I was expecting.

Never mind the TFI wiring question, I found it.

That doesn't help me explain why the promium switch wants to make the car die when used though.

Still frustrated here in Key West.

Removed the SPOUT? You mean removed the SPOUT disconnect jumper? You need that to set the timing. First thing I would do is re-install it SPOUT jumper and then disconnect it to check the timing ( 10 deg BTC ).

I was wondering what would happen if the timing was way too far advanced. If the Reg/Prem switch changes the timing, then maybe switching to Prem. could advance it too far for it to run
