I removed mine and have not had any issues. Other will probably chime in on the pros/cons.

I believe that removing it violates federal regulations.

I had a mysterious rough idle and narrowed it down to the line going to the canister. Disconnected it and it's fine. It's still bolted to the car but not hooked up. One of the lines under the car going to the tank is the one with the hole in it.

The canister traps fuel vapors from the gas tank and routes them to the intake to be burned in the combustion process.

Or you can just route the vapor line open to atmosphere. You may or may not notice any gas smell. Its completely up to you, I took mine out a long time ago.

Here in CA, it is the law that we have to have them. They don't weigh much and really aren't in the way in the engine compartment. I have actually had to re-install them on several SVOs and GT Turbos whose previous owners removed them and threw them away.

I'd leave yours where it is. It does help reduce pollution and doesn't hurt anything.
