  • PCV / Oil Separator Question

    Hello all:

I have searched the forums but cannot find the answer to my question, although there are a lot of posts that discuss the subject generally.

My SVO is an 86. The oil separator (I think this is what they call it) that fits into the back of the valve cover does not fit well and keeps blowing out of it and pouring oil all over the block. The oil separator has a metal fitting on the bottom which is supposed to slide into the valve cover, which it does, but the fit is not tight and there is no rubber coupling of sorts to keep it from leaking. The other side of the oil separator has a hose that runs down to the turbo inlet. This metal hose was previously broken, so I crudely rigged it back up with a ruber connector and some hose clamps. The seal may not be very good.

Regarding the PCV, please tell me where it is located and where the hoses to it are supposed to go. I also heard mention of a separator below the intake that screws into the block?

The previous owner of this car had real boneheads work on it, so a lot of the hoses do not go where they were supposed to go, and may go to the wrong places.

    Any help would be appreciated.

The PCV connects to a large hose under the upper intake. Look for a hose that goes from under the upper intake by the TB and heads for the alternator.

The oil seperator is obsolete from ford so if it is slopy then oring it. i use a groving tool to oring my breather kits I am sure you can do the same thing with the seperator.

Look between the distributor cap and the block. That is where the hose routes and where the PCV valve hooks into the hoses that Eric mentioned.

When installing your PCV valve be sure to clamp both sides of the valve or the pressure will push it out of the hose and make a huge mess. Ask me how I know.

There was this one time on the dyno at the reunion that this little oversight caused a mess on the floor.

I seem to remember something about that.

You need the "grape jelly" Loctite. Pat turned me on to this. It's the sh!t.
                I threaded mine though.
