hi fripp, i would check compression again but with a little oil in each cylinder. Also, if possible i would do a leak down test. Check your timing with a timing light, and maybe would check the distributor/distributor gear for damage or loose. I hope you find your problem , report back soon

Hello Mike,Originally posted by MikeFlemingFuel is easy enough to test. I'd suspect a jumped cam timing belt.
I installed an external fuel pressure gauge and the numbers are the follow, 32 at idle and 39 vac disconnected. Each PSI of boost give me one PSI on the fuel pressure gauge. The cam timing belt is OK.
Still have the same problem.
If I accelerate gently I can rev it to 6000, but if I start fast, it died at around 4000 rpm, and have to wait 20-30 seconds to restart it.
What do you recomment for future diagnostic ?

Did you ever look into your compression issue. One cylinder was down considerably which is a sign something is amiss. Also, did you ever replace the questionable follower?86 SVO 1E, not stock. MM&FF May 2010

The pressure gauge indicated 32 PSI.Originally posted by MikeFlemingSo what is the fuel pressure gauge indicating when it dies?? Any unusual/strange noises when it "dies"? What is the tach needle doing then? Does it just cut and die or [relatively] slowly loose power and continue to go away?
Does it eventually coast down to a stop and crank, crank without firing again? Then start and run fine in ~10+ minutes?
What RPM does it die if you gingerly get up to say 5000 in first, then grab second and mash on it?
No strange noise, except sometime backfire after it die.
The tach needle goes to around 1000 rpm, than slowly to zero.
After it die it can't fire again, and it can run fine after 10 minutes.
For your last question, I gona make the test tomorrow because the battery is empty.86 silver SVO
