No Fuel Pump Buzz

I have been continuously chasing electrical gremlins on my 84 SVO for the past 2 years.

I had an intermittent amp light, so I replaced both battery cables, and all wires that lead to the alternator.

Fire the car up and let it idle for awhile, then I closed the hood and the car died, along with some smoke.

I immediately opened the hood, and looked I don't know what I smoked..

I then tried to restart the car. I turned the key and did not get any buzz from the fuel pump.. The engine turned over however.

Where do I go from here? Is there a fuse for the fuel pump? Is there an in line fusible link? If so, where is it?

Fuse links are under the coil cover.

I have spent the last 3 hours cussing...

It was running so good that I went and filled it up with premium, drove it 3 miles and had the meltdown in driveway!

'84s were notorious for bad wiring insulation that would get brittle and crumble off the wires, exposing wires to each other. My old 84 had the primary ignition wires off the distributor that were exposed. They would touch each other in right-hand turns, shutting the car down sometimes long enough for me to pay for a tow home. Usually the jostling around on the hook would fix the problem and the car would start with no problems after it was delivered to the house. A new harness to the TFI module fixed most of those problems.

I never saw smoke, though, and I suspect you popped a fusable link, as others have pointed out. Carefully examine all of the wires under the hood for crumbling insulation, though, so it doesn't happen again.
