is there any reason not to powder coat the trans Case? is there anything i should particularly avoid powdercoating? should the inside be coated or not?

I see no benefit of powdercoating the inside of a gear box case (unless of course you are going to do a cut-a-way to use for display purposes).

The external areas of the trans case would look cool powdercoated. You sound more anal than me!

Clean the piss out of it. Blast it clean. Use brake cleaner to clean it out again and make sure that you have blown everything out. I dont know if you have a phosphate bath or not. Tape off all gasket surfaces ( use the right tape and if you even think of being like one of the TF retards who uses aluminium foil....shoot yourself ), plug all threads. Do you have a real powder coating oven or a home made one? Dont powder coat the inside.

            Boing!

How much does that weigh? That is the powder coat.
            What's the flavor?

I think what Stacey is trying to get at is the weight of the power coating on the tranny case...try and remember his angle of looking at things. On a part like the tranny, I would have to guess around 3-4 lbs of PC, likely more depending on thickness.

Where I work we shoot ~1lb on a 14x24" panel for reference. All of our powerdercoating on cast aluminum is of the 'high temp' variety that can handle prolonged use @ 800 deg F, but it also textured.

That's cool. I guess I don't need to get it JetHoted then. 14x24 you say. I have a friend of a freind that did the whole bottom of a GTO chassis. We all were wondering one day how much that added. Gives perspective how much was used.

What is the normal coating temp range you guys use?

The Wife is looking at a new oven and I'm thinking about doing some cook'n in the garage. Hell I just might ship the crate to the Adder. Maybe field trip? I'd like to do the work and/or see your opperation. Thoughts?

Case and tail section might take 1-1.5 lbs of normal powder. Not enough weight to worry about. Cures at 385-400 and would take about 450-500+ sustained before you have to worry depending on powder. Not all are the same. High temp would take 1000 sustained ( not counting any of the ugly stuff you dont want on your car ).

Kitchen ovens can swing up to 75-120 degrees, even with new thermostats. They suck. I only use my large oven anymore and have an old kitchen oven that I only use as a table or to dry something quickly.

If you are thinking of a road trip, let me know and maybe we can get the NE crew togather.

We’ve been bake’n in my buddy’s kitchen oven for this restoration project I’m involved with. In this case size does matter. We just got the rinky-dink Eastwood set and such. Boy it’s stinky though.

520 miles that’s doable. Long weekend with the wife to PA. See the sights and work on car stuff, sounds great. What’s around there? Amish crap for her? Any historical sites for me? Hmm.

Or we can see if the guys from Jersey all want to come up. Im sure we can at least get Roger and Eric. Maybe all da families, too.

                            as far as stuff....

Pretty neat really, but seen it all my life. Actually, still cool to stand under and take in.

Im not Mormon, so to me its just a good spot to pull over and see how much damage the deer just did. Joelle whacked a trophy buck right in front of it.

Elk Mountain is a very short drive away, but you have to wait for snow.

I guess a search of Susquehanna (town, area or county) will give you an idea of what here. Just over the boarder is Broome county, NY.

No. Its cool in the winter when its dropping a lot of snow and there is no traffic. Just silence, darkness and snow.
