I am changing the knock sensor, 02 sensor, and air/temp sensor in my 84 SVO and I was wondering if it would be ok to get sensors from the local parts store or should I spend the extra money and get them from Ford. Thanks, Craig

well, I have to question why you want these.??
I've never seen or heard of a knock sensor (KS) going bad, or causing problems
Your car does not have a air-temp sensor except in the vane air meter, and it isn't replacable to my knowledge, without replacing the entire VAM
it don't have a air charge temp (ACT) either
It does have a BAP (barametric atmosphere pressure) sensor Located on the passenger side shock tower. it is a black thing, with a tube that sticks down (It should not have a hose on it) -- but like ths KS, I don't think I have heard of one of these going bad either
3 -GOOD IDEA -- I get the bosch O2 sensors, -- if you look on the one that originally came from ford, it says bosch on it...
If you are having problems with it not runnig right, you might want to post what your problems are, and see if we can point you in the right direction instead of throwing parts at it first..Eric C

I am building a new motor and the knock sensor is junk, it no longer pulls out timing. As for the other 2 sensors I figured it would be good to change them while I'm doing the rest of the motor. The air-temp sensor I was talking about is not located in the VAM, it is located in the lower intake manifold(picture attached). Thanks, Craig.

that is a coolant temp sensor. -- If I was building a engine, I would replace that too -- I have used store brand sensors for those before and never had a problem. I wouldn't think anything about it.
I'm not sure you will be able to find a aftermarket knock sensor. like I said, I've never had any experience chasing them down tho.. I do know I had a VW buddy that was going to add a KS to his engine, and they sensor itself was pretty expensive. (75 bucks)
I can't help too much on that one...Eric C

I think that you are thinking of the wrong sensor. That previous picture is the air-temp sensor. The picture attatched to this reply is the coolant temp sensor. They look somewhat alike and are both mounted in the lower intake manifold. As for the knock sensor and 02 sensors, I have located them at a local parts store already and are much cheaper than the Ford parts.
Ford Knock Sensor E3ZZ12A699A $63
Lappens Auto Parts Knock Sensor $46
Ford 02 Sensor E6TZ9F472A $104
Lappens Auto Parts 02 Sensor $40
Sacramento Mustang Air-Temp Sensor $40

That sounds decent enough on the knock sensor...
I agree with wolf on the O2 sensor.. i got the bosch from autozone for about $25 -- -BUT what year is your car ??
86 has 1 wire O2
84-85 has 3 wire (heated element i do believe)
the 3 wire may be more expensive.
I would get the temp coolant sensor at the same time -- I wouldn't waste money shipping it through sac mustang.. I think mine was $10 when I put my engine back together...Eric C
