Im trying to put 5 gallons of gas in this 84 and it wont take it, the filler neck overflows and actually stays filled. Anyone have any ideas? It acts like the tank is full, the gauge reads empty but Im pretty sure its not working at all. Just wondering whats in these filler necks that could be stuck or binding since this car has been setting for many years. I really dont think the tank is full, I can tap on it but I cant really tell. I have fuel pressure to the rail and volume is good too. Maybe it is full, Im going to drop the tank I guess unless someone points something out! Thanks gents!

I have a similair problem in that it will take the gas with no problems, but I have to manually pull up on the gas nozzle's lever....I can't set it on one of the indents to keep the lever pulled up...it justs rejects it at will. This has me baffled. Though, I consistently visit the same gas station 2x a week and I have obviously used the many pumps at the station, I have not tried an entirely different gas station all together.

To see if the tank might be full already.....get a 2-3 gal gas can and run around until it poops out. Note the mileage and go with it.
This will also allow you to pull the tank a lot easier, as it will be near empty when you get back from the venture.

get some rubber fuel line and feed it down there first and see how much you have before dropping it safely.
when I dropped mine and several others I purchased the cheapest electric fuel pump I could find and hooked it up to a cigaratte lighter plug. I put rubber hose on the ends and feed it into the tank and boom....flip the switch I have inline and it pumps all the fuel out in minutes into tanks I have outside. saves TONS of time. cost.. less than $30 total.

Thanks guys for the feed back. Right now I'm waiting on injectors as 3 of the 4 are not firing. I am going to drop the tank, I was curious to see if there is a anti siphon mechanism or something that may be blocking the filler neck keeping fuel from entering, I think I'm just going to drop it and install a walbro while I'm there, I know I will need it sooner than later! Anyone have a set of green tops?

if you've never seen the other side of the filler neck in the tank I have one right here..there is a seperater that is quite long, but even if it fell off it wouldn't block fuel..it would just fall into the tank probably.
(this particular one came out of an 89LX 5.0 that sat for 8 years thus the rust)
