  • Aux bearing install ?

I don't have a cam bearing install tool, anyone have tips on installation of the Aux bearings without it? No I don't want to take it to a shop, I don't have the time. We're trying to get it together by Sunday.

    Thanks

    Bob

a punch, and a hammer and be really careful not to mar the bearing surface, or fatten the edge.
I'd still say call someone, they will most likley install cheap, and it only takes minutes

I'll 2nd the opinion that these bearing should be installed by a shop. I tried doing it myself based on some posts by others that have done it without trouble. I think I "fattened the edges" as Eric puts it... My Aux. shaft won't go in now, and I damaged the front bearing trying to get it in.
Ugh! Time to call Rick... AKA Dragpak, AKA the Lifesaver!
If it ain't broke... Give me some time!

There is a tool to install them, and remove them with. just like almost all other work, without the proper tool, bad things are bound to happen.

Yea, I learned a lesson. I called every parts store in townm though and nobody had the right tool to rent. Figured I'd give it a try.

If they had the 'right tool' you wouldn't have wanted to buy it. They're fairly expensive.... the local shop installs those bearings for me for 15-20 a set... not worth the 200 buck tool for how often I use it.

Picking up another set of bearings, and Rick is coming down one night this week with the correct tool to help me install them properly. He will be rewarded with some babyback ribs on the grill, and a beverage or two of his choice...
                  I love cheap labor! LOL

                  Thanks again Rick!

Well, Rick came down, and we swapped out the bearings for new ones... Esslinger shaft still wouldn't go in....
I then took some measurements. Esslinger shaft is out of round. 1.650 at the smallest, and 1.656 at the largest point. Bearings are 1.651 to 1.653 ID. Why is nothing simple!?
My original shaft slid into the bearings fine, and measured 1.650 all around.
I'm going to stop by a mold/tool shop I've worked with many times over the years, and hopefully he can throw it in his lathe and get it round for me.
Anyone ever experienced this with one of Essy's shafts?

Called Esslinger. SOL on exchanging it unless I find a receipt. Sent a PM to Mark hoping he has it.
Local shop didn't seem to have much interest in helping me out. so much for favors. I've sent a lot of business his way.
I may end up just taking it to an auto machine shop.

                        Dave

Saw this/your message I will have to look for the reciept. (THis goes back to the 90's - but i have all my taxes seperated by year, just don't know what year)

Probably best that it gets replaced - would love to know if they had issues with a batch (if they would say and when)

Anyway - PM you phone number so we can work on this.

                        Mark
                        P.S. I have found Esslinger reciepts from 1994 , 1996 !! (Not with those)
BUt they changed they printer format then !! (Bet they don't have the info- if I give them an invoice number ! )

When did they split to Esslinger Turbo Scene, to ETS, and then to Esslinger Performance? I remember dealing with them long ago, maybe around that same time and couldn't get it straight who to call for which parts. I believe it was when I got my 3" downpipe. I think I got it from ETS. I think it was a set of brothers that split the company up. Anyway, it was too long ago for me to remember straight, and I was a newbie in the SVO world.

                            ETS was NOT ever Esslinger...

Essential Turbo Systems? Something like that? I thought they were owned by brothers or something... Like I said, it was confusing then, and a long time ago. Anyway, it doesn't matter to this situation.
