16 boost with the stock regulator will not run the motor lean enough to hurt anything unless you kept the motor at 6000 rpm all the time.Originally posted by turbosvo View Postthat's what I had 1035, now that I think about it! I think I was running lean, was running 16 psi with stock regulator!
Buy a 8993 HG paint it silver with regular ole high temp paint and bolt it down.... I have held over 30+psi on a stock HG.....
GET A WIDE BAND, or go to a dyno shop..... verify the a/f ratio......
Something else happened to toast the HG, IF its even the HG.
Sorry to hear about your trouble bro. wish i was there to help ya out.

Yes, heads are afraid of silver head gaskets, they dare not blow. It's kind of like how a bull gets pissed at red (Originally posted by boostedbruiser View PostBuy a 8993 HG paint it silver with regular ole high temp paint and bolt it down.
).
BTW, what does the silver do?

YES PAINT ALL OF IT TOP BOTTOM ...... everywhere.
As for what the silver paint DOES??? i dunno for sure. its kind of one those "old school" racer tricks i heard from a friend. I will say this, when ever i had to remove a HG that had been painted before installation, the Silver acts like Glue and helps the HG "stick" to where its supposed to be. With a 1035 (i blew 2 of those also) i could always pull the HG off in one piece without a problem. the painted 8993 Hg has to be razor scraped off the head and the block. the one time i tried a 8993 without the paint i was able to remove it in one piece like a 1035 gasket. So IMO its safe to say the silver paint helps glue the HG to the head, Now does this mean it will hold up any better??? I dunno , but the only time i have ever popped a HG is from excessive high boost which was my fault anyways. (car sure runs like a bat out of hell on the 32+psi of boost , i think i have hit as high as 35 psi before
)
I have had 2 8993 HG pop on me and that was due to EXCESSIVE boost levels (32+psi). the excessive boost was due to lack of better control with my boost controller. AND a heavy foot
BUT with this said i have safely run 28-30 psi on my 8993 HG without issues with the proper octane requirement.
Last thing, i popped a HG from what i believe to be TOO much trq on my studs(90-95 ft lbs). It actually toasted the HG in the area between the studs and only leaked coolant, I had no isses with the fire ring and no signs of the fire ring blowing out. the coolant passge though closest to #3 cyl (drivers side) leaked once the engine was warm and the coolant system was pressurized.
everytime i had a HG blow i had the head checked for flatness and/or milled. the block was also verified each time.... I probably have 250.00 just in getting the surfaces flat every time... it sucked. but now i know what to do , how do it, and what NOT to do.
the paint may do nothing, but i have had GREAT success with HG when i do this, so i'll keep doin it
