  • Aftermarket Starter?

Not to get bashed with the same stuff as US Marines post, but...

I called Ford for for a new starter for my 86 and got quoted $180.00! Seems a bit high...

Are there any aftermarket light weight starters (read racing!) for the SVO? If so, where do I get one.

And before anyone says it, I will call some of the SVO vendors in the morning...just looking for feedback.
Hoping to get on the track soon

    Lightweight Starter

I used the PA Performance starter on my 86 open track car. It works fine and cost $147. I don't know that I would do it again since the weight savings was only 4 1/2 lbs. The Ford starter was 12 1/2lbs and the PA was 8lbs. I had not weighed the original starter before I ordered the light weight one. I was under the impression that the original starter was around 18lbs to 20 lbs.

For something like that, I would look at a local starter rebuilder, or -- a autozone.. there is no difference in the 2.3T starter, and the 2.3-NA starter --

to be honest, the NA starter is more than enough, as the Turbo engine has less compression. --You can probably pick one up at autozone for like $80

Well, I work Part-Time at Autozone, and I would not recommend putting an Autozone starter in my car. I know they have a lifetime warranty, you'll spend the rest of your life changing it! We have TOO MANY returns on our starters. Even with a 20% employee discount, I went to Ford for my wifes Explorer. It also has a lifetime warranty. You need to weigh out the savings versus the repeated labor time. Time is precious to me.
