  • Exaust system for an '84

OK guys I'm new to SVO ownership. I've been into Mustangs my whole life, but this is my first SVO. I just bought a pretty much original silver metallic with 74,000 miles. My muffler and tailpipe are shot. I was thinking about upgrading the whole system if it wasn't too expensive. What are some of your thoughts on what systems and where to get stock or aftermarket systems?

    Thanks,
    Richard

It depends on what you want out of the car

If your wish is to keep the value of the car up keep it stock. Most exaust shops will sell you a replacement system of some sort that could pass for stock except for the tips. In my opinion bite the bullet and do the 3 inch downpipe and new cat and muffler . It is well worth it. I am using the Borla system. I have seen several other systems, but you should either be mecanicaly inclined or have a good exaust shop, because I have yet to see a system go up witout some sort of modification. Check out SVP and sacramento mustang thay can help out alot in the exaust arena. The Borla system is no longer available probably due to the cost of the all stainless pipes. I am sure others will respond with more current info on the Sacramento downpipe. I have yet to see the new design. But there are also some Cat back systems if that is all you want to do, but you will only see marginal improvement over stock. The trick is the downpipe and a good cat. But that is only one opinion.

Check a recent thread titled 'which 3"exhaust is best', should give you some ideas. Welcome to SVO ownership, you'll find this web site and everyone here extremely helpful.

        3" MAC system for sale

I'm not sure how far Wylie is from New Mexico, but I saw a classified on TurboFord.org for a 3" Cat back Mac system for sale in eastern New Mexico for $150. The system only had 7k miles on it I believe. It is setup to connect to Sacramento Mustang's 3" down pipe. You might check it out. At that price, it may be worth the trip.
