It's easy for a muffler shop to do, but what will it end up looking like? What about fit and finish? Will it be clean inside and out with mandrel bends? Will it be user friendly when it's time to change the clutch, or will you have to remove it with a hacksaw? You may wish to check out some local race car fab shops for their input and get a few quotes.Originally posted by 8T6 SVO View PostIs this easy for a muffler shop to do? 3" to dual 2.5"?
By the way, I'm a big fan of those truck style strap clamps. I made a 3" exhaust for my 84 using those. I can swap out the cat with a straight pipe in minutes thanks to those strap clamps (for test purposes only, of course!).
Search for pics of Mike Malone's (AT6SVO) dual exhaust. That may give you a few ideas too.

I still have that strait pipe for the muffler if you still want it. Sounds like you are trying to go the other way though
I had my local muffler shop fab up the full 3" over the rear axel on my race car. I'm sure there is someone there local who can do it but Pat's right, you need to look at all those other issues when doing a custom job.Hoping to get on the track soon

Give me a link to some of the systems you are refering to. I'm looking at Maganflow mufflers as Eyelawdoc has refered to in some of his previous posts.Originally posted by Pat_in_L.A. View PostGreg, I think that some of the mustang vendors around the country sell 2 1/2" cat back packages for a V6 Mustang that include a Y-pipe. Still mods to perform, but all the parts needed.
None of the aftermarket dual exhaust packages include different length mufflers as it came from the manufacturer. Resonance is noticeably different with the 14" and 18" versus two 14's.
If I seperate the parts out from the mufflers, I may be able to get different size Magnaflow mufflers. - if needed.

If you type "Mustang dual exhaust" in on Ebay, you'll find many kits. Borla.com has a few stainless options and a dealer locator that is zip code based, but you basically have to pick up the phone to get decent detailed information from them.
The spintech stuff at DrGas looks interesting. I like the DrGas low ground clearance oval pipe solution for some applications.
Magnaflow.com may have some useful things as well, but I haven't looked there lately. Their 3" cat cost me ~$50 a couple years ago. It was an outside slip fit style.

It's a nice 3" pipe with a borla muffler, very nice fit as it sits under the car now. Once I get a new system, I won't have any use for it. It's a custom fit system, so unless a down pipe is made to fit this pipe, it's just a muffler and some pipe.

Yesterday, my wife so disliked the sound of my SVO that she said it would be ok if I got a new 2007 Shelby Convertible instead - she was serious! Now that's a tuff one!
I told her maybe in a few years, I'm not done with this car yet.
I better get the new exhaust on the car soon!

Well enough about the wife. I'm not getting a convertible Shelby.
Here's the new exhaust. Magnaflow 3" cat, into a Stinger Y, into 2 Mangnaflow 4X9 ovals, into 2-1/2" flowmaster stainless tailpipes.
Now I can hear the turbo without it blaring out the tailpipe. Sounds good and just as much power - I guess?
